It later turned to logging. Orofino is Clearwater County's largest community and is the County Seat. An abundance of activities are available in the area. Dworshak Dam and the 53 mile reservoir provides opportunity for many water activities, camping and hunting. Some of the biggest steelhead and salmon are caught near here. Participants from all over compete in the Annual Lumberjack Days events.
The City of Orofino was selected as the Idaho Community to host the unveiling of the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial stamps. The celebration was held at Pink House Hole along the Clearwater River, May, 14, 2004. The area is just west of the site where Lewis, Clark and their men, with the help of the Nez Perce Indians, built canoes that eventually took them to the Pacific Ocean. * Orofino, Idaho, Chamber of Commerce RV Waste Disposal Station - Orofino has one of the cleanest Waste Disposal Stations along Highway 12. It is free to use, has a hose to wash off debris easily and provides drive-thru access.
