Chamber of CommerceOrofino, Idaho, is the land of all seasons, and has something for everyone the year round. This beautiful mountainous country is full of crystal clear rivers, babbling brooks and turquoise lakes. The equal distribution of all four seasons creates an ever changing landscape. Orofino's regional history follows Lewis and Clark, the early mining rushes, and the great lumber industry. Surrounded by wilderness areas on three sides, this land is truly a haven for those who desire THE GREAT OUTDOORS. Enjoy a meal in town, spend a restful evening in a nice motel, hotel , a B&B, or at a close campground, then head out the next morning for the backcountry. Besides the Orofino Chamber of Commerce office and motels and restaurants, information and detailed maps can be obtained at the Clearwater National Forests Supervisor's Headquarters in Orofino.

The
First Day of Issue of the Lewis and Clark Stamp will be held on
May 14, 2004 near Orofino. The ceremony will unveil the three
new U.S. Postal Service stamps commemorating the Bicentennial at
the Bureau of Land management’s Pink House Recreation Site. The
site is approximately three miles west of Orofino on Highway 12
and about two miles down river from Canoe Camp where the Lewis
and Clark expedition built their dugouts to continue their
journey to the Pacific Ocean. The Canoe Camp site, a part of the
Nez Perce National Historical Park, includes an interpretive
trail, wayside exhibits, picnic benches and a full-size
reproduction of a canoe like those built for the expedition.
The Orofino ceremony will be the closest First Day Issue
observance for many miles from Idaho. The Montana ceremony will
be in Great Falls, and the Washington and Oregon ceremonies will
be at the mouth of the Columbia.
May 14 will be an eventful and busy day beginning at 11 a.m.
Plans for the event include sales of stamps and first day
cancellations as well as informational and vendor booths. A
mobile post office will be on hand, staffed by postal employees
to take care of official business. Cancellation of stamps will
begin at 9 a.m.
Dignitaries including the governor are expected to attend the
ceremonies.
This will be one of the highlights of the bicentennial in Idaho
so plan to attend. For further information contact the Orofino
Chamber of Commerce at 208-476-4335.
